Our Swim Team is constructed of both male and female swimmers and beginners and non-beginners. The Tiftarea YMCA Swim Team is five years old and has several accomplishments to display at our Aquatics Center. We swim year round competing at meets in our area, region and at state!

Everyone is welcome and anyone can join!

Practices are Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 to 7:30pm with additional optional morning practices from 6:00am to 7:00am on Tuesdays and Thursdays. 

(These practices will not begin until September.)

Team Fees:

YMCA Member: First Child $55 a month, Second Child $45 a month, Third Child $35 a month, Fourth Child $15 a month.

Non-YMCA Member: First child $65 a month, Second Child $45 a month, Third Child $55 a month, Forth Child $50 a month.

This includes USA swimming registration membership fees

If you are a brand new to the swim team, your swimmer is allowed one week of practices to see if they are interested before you commit financially.

Official Sign-up forms will be available on site at the pool or you can sign up with us in the main office.

We divide our team into colors to better everyone’s swimming abilities!

White: Beginners at the competitive level who have 0-2 years of experience. This group is for swimmers in the 5-10 age range.  The swimmer is introduced to competitive swimming, simple training and stroke development.  Skill development and conditioning is enhanced through a combination of teaching and training.  Emphasis is on instruction and drills in strokes, starts and turns.  A personal improvement is emphasized.  Skill objectives include: To learn good habits, to recognize how correct stroke technique feels, to learn good habits, to maintain technique while beginning to swim fast.  Attitude objectives include: To follow coaches’ directions, to enjoy competitive swimming, to make friends, to learn rules, and to develop as a team player. Meet Expectations: optional participation.  Training Standards include: Adequate development of all four strokes and the technique necessary to race them.  Endurance build up. Practice is Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Coaches are Ellen & Teddie 

Red: This group is designed for swimmers in the 7-12 age range who have shown a commitment to the team and a desire to train at a higher level of intensity.  A swimmer in the group typically trains 2,000-4,000 yards per workout.  This group continues to work on proper technique through advanced drills as well as increased training endurance.  Training objectives include: focused improvement of technique through advanced training drills, increased training endurance through aerobics sets, development of racing skills.  Motor Skill objectives include: increasing strength and flexibility, competition in an increased variety of events with greater distances.  Attitude objectives include: Enjoyment of the challenges that arise in swimming (hard sets, close races, qualifying times, and workout schedule), a desire to improve, consistent display of self discipline and dedication, willingness to contribute to team atmosphere. Individual goals are emphasized.  Meet expectations: Open time meets are expected. Training standards include: Understanding and successful use of a pace clock for training, 4x100 of each stroke LEAGALLY. Practice is Tuesday and Thursdays from 4:30 until 6:00pm.

Black: This group is designed for swimmers in the 8-13 age range who have shown a commitment to swimming through high attendance and a proven ability to train at a higher level of intensity.  A swimmer in this group typically trains 2,500 to 4,500 yards per workout.  This group continues to refine techniques through advanced drills as well as increased training endurance.  Racing strategies such as pace and sprint as well as dryland training are introduced.  Training objectives include: focused improvement of techniques through advanced training drills, increased training endurance through aerobic sets, development of intense interval training, development of racing skills such as pace and sprint, learning dryland training exercises.  Motor Skills objectives include: increasing strength and flexibility, competition in an increased variety of events with greater distances.  Attitude objectives include: Enjoyment of the challenges that arise in swimming (hard set, close races, qualifying times, and workout schedule), a desire to improve, consistent display of self discipline and dedication, consistently show good sportsmanship and a respect for teammates.  Meet expectations: Open time meets as well as the ability to obtain some qualifying times for individual meet advancement.  Training standards include: Understanding and successful use of a pace clock for training, 6x100 free on 2:30 and 4x100 IM on the 3:00.  Practice is Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 5:00-6:30pm.

Senior Group: Swimmers in this group are expected to commit to a high level of training.  This group is designed for swimmers who have shown superior commitment and ability to train at the highest level.  This group is designed for swimmers ages 12 and over.  Typically the groups’ workouts range from 4,500 to 7,000 yards per workout.  Participation in dryland and weight training is expected.  Training objectives include: concentrating on technique and skills, focus on volume and intensity of training, use of dryland as a cross training tool.  Specialization in specific strokes and distances as well as general perfection of stroke and technique.  Motor Skill objectives include: Enjoyment of the challenges that arise in swimming (hard sets, close races, obtaining qualifying times, workout schedule), a desire to improve, and application of self discipline and dedication to achieve success, and a development of TEAM LEADERSHIP skills as well as a display of a positive example for the younger swimmers.  Attendance is expected at majority of practices (80%).  Meet expectations: Swimmers are expected to attend all meets for which they are eligible for in the season unless specific circumstances arise.  Training standards include: 5x200 free on the 3:15, 5x200 IM on the 4:00.
